A Fond Farewell: George Merritt

Hey everyone,

This is a sadder post to pay homage to a great man.  My senior year in high school I performed in a show called “Broadway at Good Theater” at Good Theater in Portland Maine.  I sang “Muddy Water” from Big River with a man named George Merritt.  George passed away at the age of 67 on February 15th.  I found out on Friday the 19th when I went to see The Importance of Being Ernest at Good Theater.  I remarked to Brian Allen (the Artistic Director) that I still had George’s name on my resumé and he quietly asked me if I was aware if George had passed away.

I was stunned to say the least.  You see I only knew him for a total of about 4 days, but we had so much fun singing that song, and we talked at great lengths backstage, and afterwards George immediately emailed me to keep in touch.  He was like that, he was always reaching out.  His obituary can be found here and it talks about many of his charitable activities.  He sent me an email or a message on facebook/linkedin every couple months or so to see what I’d been doing, and to update me on what he and his wife had been doing.

A Message to Bill Villa

Hey everybody,

So this might be my second post in Anger and Hate, however I chose not to call it that because unlike Fred Phelps, the following recipient at least deserves open discourse.  In Allentown, PA (where my father is currently the Vice-President of the City Council) there is a man named Bill Villa.  I will not get into the man’s history except to say that it is truly tragic, and the loss of a daughter is awful, as my family (although I was not born yet) can tell you.  I don’t know much about the man because most of the information I have about him comes from his truly vicious blog postings, or from people who seem to hate him, and therefore speak about him in hyperbole and with venom. In a recent post he threatened to go after my father with “Both Barrels” which in context means that he may or may not use the legal system to attack him, but I believe the wording is very specific and is a very thinly disguised threat of harm. So on that post I have posted a comment with my thoughts on his actions. Because I hear that he has a tendency to rewrite, or not accept comments he does not like (pardon me Mr.

My First Post in Anger and Hate

Please be warned, this post will be profane.  If you do not enjoy that kind of language, do not keep reading.  Much of the profanity will be quotes.

Hey everyone,

I am posting this to educate some members of the Portland community to a situation that is arising that I have been angry about all day.  I don’t know what else I can do but try to help and get the word out.

So there is a man in this nation.  A man who makes me boil with hate with every fiber of my being.  A man named Fred Phelps.  He is a reverend who associates himself with the Westboro Baptist Church.  Now this particular Baptist church (which is not to say all of them) is home to a lot of hate, and has caused a lot of pain and anguish for various families and organizations.  They are the owners of the GodHatesFags.com, and as of February 20th, 2010 they have brought their fight into my life.

How is it that they have entered my life?  Well, on February 20th, 2010 they had a press release on said website, which shall no longer be stated by name or linked to in this post.
