Greatest [Sing/Dance-A-Long] Songs Ever. Period.
Hey everyone,
So if you all have followed me on Twitter, then you’ll know that earlier today I was updating with some songs off my Greatest Songs Ever. Period. list. I decided I wanted to get some of these songs down, so the following are 25 of the songs on that list. Now before the shredding of these choices begin, know that there were some criteria here. The judging was done as follows:
- It had to be a song that just makes you want to bounce, dance, sing, slam your hands against your steering wheel to the rhythm, or any of these natural reactions to kickass crazy awesome songs.
- The song must induce a heartrate increase.
- It can not be a song that I love, but helps to put me to sleep sometimes.
- It is not a song which I love, but is of the softer nature.
- It is a song that I would rather yell at the top of my lungs, than sing politely.
Now that you see some (but not all) of the grading criteria, the following are my list (in no particular order) of the songs on the Greatest Songs Ever. Period. Are there more songs deserving to be on this list? Probably, and I’ll add them as they come to me, or as people convince me to add them. The first update will have 25 songs, and a couple honorable mentions. Here we go, strap yourselves in folks.
- Electric Light Orchestra - Sweet Talkin’ Woman - I swear to god I can never just “listen” to this song. I am always put into a better mood when listening to this (see also the cover by Five Iron Frenzy).
- Aerosmith - Cryin’ - I have friends who argue for different Aerosmith songs, but this is the one I can listen to repeatedly, and each time try and match, at full volume, Steven Tyler’s rockin’ solos. He is a god among men when it comes to the screaming and the singing, his harmonica skills are also quite passable…an added bonus.
- The Four Seasons - Who Loves You? - There’s a reason this song was chosen to close “Jersey Boys” and not Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You, Oh What a Night (December ‘63), or any of there other unbelievable hits.
- Guster - Red Oyster Cult - The live version from “Guster On Ice: Live From Portland, Maine”, not the CD version. I don’t like the recorded version, and maybe it’s because I was there…but I love listening to this song. I think it’s the addition of the horns.
- Anthony Smith - If That Ain’t Country - Yes I know it’s country…but listen to it, I have made many a person admit they don’t hate ALL country by listening to this song.
- Electric Light Orchestra - Fire on High - ELO takes two slots on this list. Why? Because they’re freaking awesome! Besides how many instrumental pieces do you know that are this freaking cool?
- Guns N’ Roses - Welcome To The Jungle - “DO YOU KNOW WHERE THE FUCK YOU ARE?! YOU’RE IN THE JUNGLE BABY!” Enough said.
- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Breakdown - The first “slow” song on this list. Doesn’t matter, this song is amazing.
- Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird - Come on, the guitar ending? There’s no topping that.
- Billy Talent - Red Flag - This is one I bet most of you don’t know. Change that, you won’t regret it.
- Angie Aparo - Hush - Another song that you all should invest in. I don’t think it’s on itunes, but it’s findable…and you should find it.
- Ben Folds - The Last Polka - A surprising choice perhaps…but I stick by it.
- Boston - More Than a Feeling - Oh hell yeah…that’s all I have to say.
- Creedence Clearwater Revival - Lookin’ Out My Back Door - I think it has to do with The Dude in Big Lebowski slamming his car roof to this song…but it just hits home every time.
- Dakota - What Were You Thinkin’? - I call them a modern day Lynyrd Skynyrd, and they’re basically modern day southern rock. They’re awesome, get the album “Deep 6″
- Metallica - Enter Sandman - “Take my hand, off to never never land!” Awesome.
- Michael Jackson - Beat It - I’ll admit, I get here from the Never Never Land part of Metallica…but it doesn’t change the fact that this song should be on here.
- Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit - I just jump around and rock out to this song…plain and simple.
- Stew - Church Blues Revelation - from “Passing Strange”. For those of you appalled that a Musical Theatre song is on here…I don’t care, this song is unbelievable.
- The Police - Roxanne - How many times have you belted the “You don’t have to put on the red light” amongst your friends? Don’t lie, I know you just gave me a bullshit answer.
- Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody - Was there any doubt that this would be here in anyone’s mind?
- Rise Against - Life Less Frightening - Listen to it, and you will just want to jump around with the beat.
- SR71 - Right Now - You remember rocking out to this back in the year 2000…and while you still don’t think the song is all that good, you still have the urge to rock out.
- Lit - Something To Someone - You know them for their hit “My Own Worst Enemy” now look up this song…it’s off the album Atomic.
- Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Carol of the Bells - Another instrumental rock out song, check it out…you’ll love it.
- Toto - Hold The Line - I love this song, but it doesn’t QUITE make it for me
- Cobra Starship - Guilty Pleasure - I just couldn’t let this make the list with a clean conscience.
- Aerosmith - Dream On - I love this song to death, it just doesn’t get my heart going as much as the others. I came inches from putting it on the list, and I’ll probably change my mind at some point and move it there.
- Red Hot Chili Peppers - Otherside - Again, I came very close to letting this make the list, but it’s just not quite high-octane enough for me.
- Rise Against - Give It All/To Them These Streets Belong - Both of these songs were up there on my list, but they didn’t quite cut it for me.
- Billy Talent - Devil in a Midnight Mass - This whole album is great, it’s called Billy Talent II…get it.
- Weezer - Say It Ain’t So - The chorus of this song is so amazing, but it’s sort of slow early on and in the verse.
Well there you have it people. The list. Let me know what you think, I’m assuming these choices will be slashed, hacked at, edited, and changed by myself, and also by you…but feel free to do that, I kind of want to see what people think on this subject.
