Ithaca Bartending Course
Hey everyone,
Last April I took a bartending course through a Portland Maine based company called the University Bartending program. They are a subcompany of the dogfish company (http://www.thedogfishcompany.com/) and they send a team around to different states every year to give classes to various cities. They are coming to Ithaca at the end of april! So if anyone is interested in taking their course, I will give you the information here.
The University Bartending program will be giving a class at the Holiday Inn in Ithaca’s downtown. The will be there April 24-26. The class lasts the whole weekend, at the end of which you will be well trained in the skill of bartending, as well as given a letter of recommendation. The class being offered is what’s known as a “weekend Professional” class. The class description from their website is as follows:
Description: The Professional Course is designed for the student who is interested in working as a bartender after completing the course. In theProfessional Course, students are trained in all aspects of professional bartending. Students in the Professional Course learn “hands on” during extensive pouring lab sessions. Each student in the Professional Course will be taught all of the fundamentals of bartending: different types of glassware, the tools of the bar, how to set up and break down a bar, how to pour and mix drinks correctly as well as over a hundred drink recipes including the glassware and garnishes they deserve. In addition, students who enroll in theProfessional Course will be trained in an Alcohol Awareness Program. TheAlcohol Awareness Program educates students on their legal rights, responsibilities and liabilities of a professional server of alcohol. Upon completion of the Professional Course, students receive a personal Letter of Recommendation from their instructor. This includes a detailed history of your instructor’s experience as a professional bartender, an in-depth description of the course you have taken, highlighting its major selling points and states that you are a fully trained bartender under University Bartending and a great candidate for employment.
Included in the Professional Course:
Comprehensive Instruction on the Fundamentals of Bartending
* Hands-on Pouring Lab
* Student Manual
* Alcohol Awareness Program
* Letter of Recommendation
* Free Refresher Course
The program is a great time as well as great training, and it’s reasonably priced at $219. I took the course for $250 and made that money back and more my first time out as a bartender at a wedding. The course runs from 6pm - 9pm on friday the 24th, and then 10am - 4pm on saturday the 25th, and sunday the 26th. I highly recommend this program to anyone who would like to be well trained as a bartender. Registration can be found on the University Bartending Website or the direct link can be found here.
Again I highly recommend signing up for this class, it was great experience for me, and has come in extremely useful in terms of jobs in the restaurant business.
