NETCS, A New Brain, and Announcements
Hey everyone,
It’s been a while since I last posted, sorry about that, I’ve had a lot to do. The largest of which is that the show I am a part of, A New Brain, is opening at Ithaca College this week. This thursday, March 26th is the opening performance, and let me tell you the show is amazing. I’ve been watching it unfold since the beginning, and as an understudy, I am there to know the Minister’s part in the off-chance that Bruce Landry (the Minister) can’t perform that night. Because of this, I’ve watched the set go up, the technical aspects join the show, I’ve watched the music grow, and the story become clear, and I have to say that this show is beautiful, and everyone should see it if you have a chance. You can read my quick summary in an earlier post, or go here. Please come see it, you won’t be disappointed.
On March 14th I auditioned for summer stock theaters at the New England Theater Conference. There were 42 theaters there this year, and I received a good amount of response from the theaters there, so hopefully I can find a fun job for this summer. I auditioned with the last 32 bars of “Goodbye” from I Love You Because, and the last 16 bars of “He Loves and She Loves” from Funny Face. I’m not quite done with my auditions, however, I still have to record a video audition for Seacoast Repertory Theater in Portsmouth New Hampshire; and this saturday some fellow castmates and I are going to drive over to Cortland and audition for the Cortland Repertory Theater. Fingers are crossed for good responses and we’ll see what happens.
The next month is a very busy one for me, including: Fight Directing a show, organizing the Freshman Cabaret (check back for more details), playing Christy in a staged reading of Playboy of the Western World, and finishing up with A New Brain. Because of these things, I’ll post when I can but I can’t promise that it will be very often. With any luck I will hear from a summer theater and I will have some news as to what I will be doing this summer.
I’m going to finish up with some announcements for upcoming events in various areas.
PORTLAND:
- Anthony’s Italian Kitchen will be holding Anthony’s Idol! This will be put on through the Anthony’s Dinner Theater program and will audition performers on April 6th and 7th, and 10 performers will be selected to perform at the saturday night shows through the month of May. The audience will vote on the performers and at the ed of the month, the winner will win $500. Everyone should come out and support Anthony’s; and who knows…you might win some money! More about it here or call (207) 774-8668.
- Waynflete School (my old stomping grounds) will be putting on a production of Steel Magnolias in the beautiful new Franklin Theater. I won’t be able to attend the productions, but I can vouch for the people in the show, and the talent there, coupled with the beautiful new theater, is not a show you’ll want to miss. The show runs April 2nd through 4th. No ticket reservation necessary but they ask that you call and leave your name to say you are coming. For more info please visit Waynflete’s website or call Fran Fierstead at (207) 774-5721 ext. 201.
- A New Brain runs March 26th through April 4th, with no show on Monday, March 30th, and two shows on both saturdays. Ticket information below.
- Ithaca College Department of Theatre Arts’ final show of the season is Molliere’s Tartuffe. This production is set in Louisianna, and is directed by Greg Bostwick. It is going to be hilarious, and the production is going to be spectacular, including a huge two story set. For ticket information on both shows please visit the Department Website or call the box office at (607) 274-3224.
- At the Kitchen Theater, two original plays written by Ithaca College students will be having world premieres as part of the Kitchen Sink series. For ticket information, please visit the Kitchen Theatre Website.
- Inc. and Toner, written by Britain Valenti will be having its world premiere on Monday, April 20th at 7PM. The cast and crew is made up almost entirely of IC students, including being directed by senior Dustin Bell.
